The OSG 1400100208 is a thread forming tap designed for 0-80 UNF internal threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chip generation. This tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for improved wear resistance and surface hardness. With a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, it is suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. It belongs to the OSG HY-PRO NRT series and carries a Class 3B thread fit with an H2 thread limit. It is intended for use by machinists and tool and die professionals in precision threading operations.
This tap is designed for blind hole threading across a range of metals including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The HY-PRO NRT series is built for demanding production environments where thread quality and tool life are critical. Its right-hand thread direction and compact geometry make it well suited for close-tolerance work in tight workpiece configurations where chip clearance is a concern and thread strength is a priority.
Designed for use on alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply. Intended for 0-80 UNF blind hole threading operations on standard CNC and manual tapping equipment.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with thread forming operations. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are rigidly fixtured before tapping to maintain thread alignment. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Do not exceed recommended tap drill sizes for 0-80 UNF thread forming, as proper hole sizing is critical to achieving the correct thread form and avoiding tap breakage.
