The OSG 1400100001 is a cobalt thread forming tap designed for 0-80 UNF bottoming applications in blind holes. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it displaces material rather than cutting chips, producing strong formed threads with a smooth finish. The tap features a steam oxide coating for improved lubrication and wear resistance during the forming process. With a bottoming chamfer of 1.5 to 2 threads, it reaches close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for tight-tolerance work. Overall length is 1.6913 inches with a thread length of 0.3173 inches and a shank diameter of 0.1410 inches. Class of fit is 3B with a thread limit of H2. Installation is performed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on precision components.
This tap is rated for use on a broad range of materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its right-hand thread direction and 80 threads per inch pitch make it appropriate for fine-thread blind hole applications in tight clearance assemblies such as instrument hardware, small fastener inserts, and precision machined components. It is suited for use in both manual tapping and CNC machine tapping operations where chip evacuation is a concern.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 0-80 UNF right-hand thread at Class 3B fit.
Thread forming taps require proper lubrication or cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material — consult the material application guidelines before use. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole to avoid tap breakage, particularly in small-diameter applications. Power down or disengage the machine spindle before loading or removing the tap. When used in CNC or power tapping applications, verify that the tapping head or rigid tapping cycle is configured for the correct thread pitch to prevent tap breakage.
