The OSG 1330300 is a standard taper pipe tap designed to cut 1/4-18 NPS (National Pipe Straight) threads in a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this tap delivers consistent thread form in applications where pipe fittings require a pressure-tight mechanical connection. It features 4 flutes with a regular hook geometry, an overall length of 2.437 inches, and a thread length of 1.0625 inches. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and machinists reach for this tap when threading pipe ports in valves, manifolds, and fittings on the bench or in the field.
This tap is suited for residential and commercial pipe threading work across a range of materials including aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, and hardened steel. The 1/4-18 NPS thread size is common in low-pressure pipe assemblies, instrumentation ports, and plumbing fittings. With a shank diameter of 0.5625 inches and a square drive size of 0.421 inches, the tap fits standard tap wrenches and machine tap holders used in shop and jobsite environments.
Designed for cutting 1/4-18 NPS straight pipe threads in aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, and hardened steel workpieces using standard tap wrenches or machine tap holders with a 0.421-inch square drive.
Tap work should be performed by a qualified machinist, pipefitter, or plumber familiar with proper tapping technique and thread standards. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material, and back off the tap periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is started square to the hole to avoid thread runout or tap breakage. Follow applicable codes such as ASME B1.20.1 for pipe thread dimensions when threading for pressure-rated assemblies.
