The OSG 1315200 is a high-speed steel interrupted thread pipe tap designed for cutting 1/8-27 NPT internal pipe threads in a range of materials. The interrupted thread geometry reduces cutting forces and chip packing, making it well suited for tapping in tough or gummy materials. This tap features 5 flutes, a bright (uncoated) finish, and a modified bottoming chamfer that allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind or shallow hole. The overall length is 2.126 inches, the shank diameter is 0.3125 inches, and the square drive size is 0.234 inches. Licensed machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians typically reach for this tap when threading pipe ports in manifolds, fittings, and housings.
This tap is intended for cutting 1/8-27 NPT tapered pipe threads in aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, and hardened steel. It fits standard tap wrenches and machine tap holders with a 0.3125-inch shank. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it especially useful when thread engagement depth is limited, such as when tapping cast ports or thick-walled fittings. It is part of the OSG Series 108G and is suited for both hand tapping and light machine tapping applications across maintenance, repair, and production environments.
Designed for cutting 1/8-27 NPT threads; compatible with standard tap wrenches and machine holders accepting a 0.3125-inch shank. Rated for use in aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, and hardened steel per OSG Series 108G specifications.
Tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist, pipefitter, or maintenance technician. Always use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and ensure the tap is properly aligned before engagement. Secure the workpiece completely before beginning to tap and back the tap out periodically to clear chips, especially in blind holes. Follow applicable shop safety and OSHA standards when operating tapping equipment.
