The OSG 1313002 is a standard pipe tap designed to cut internal NPTF tapered pipe threads in metal workpieces. It produces a 1/2-14 NPTF thread form, which is the dryseal pipe thread standard used in hydraulic, pneumatic, and fluid-system connections where a pressure-tight seal without a sealant compound is required. Manufactured from high-speed steel for durability under demanding cutting conditions, the tap features an elektraLUBE coating that reduces friction during the tapping operation and extends tool life. With 4 flutes and a 1.375-inch thread length, it suits production and maintenance tapping in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Plumbers, pipefitters, machinists, and HVAC technicians working with threaded pipe connections regularly use this tool.
The OSG 1313002 is suited for threading pipe connections in residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC refrigerant line assemblies, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic manifold work. It is used wherever a 1/2-14 NPTF dryseal thread is required in a tapped hole. The 4-flute design is appropriate for through-hole and short blind-hole applications in softer to medium-hardness materials. It is a hand-tap style intended for use in a tap wrench or machine tapping setup at appropriate speeds for the base material.
Designed as a standard replacement or stocking tap for any application requiring a 1/2-14 NPTF dryseal tapered pipe thread in metal. Fits standard tap wrenches and machine tapping holders accepting a 0.6875-inch shank diameter with a 0.515-inch square drive.
Use of this tap should follow standard tapping procedures: drill the correct tap drill size for the NPTF thread before starting, and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the base material. Secure the workpiece firmly and align the tap perpendicular to the drilled hole before applying torque. When machine tapping, use appropriate spindle speeds for high-speed steel tooling in the material being threaded. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping between uses, as a damaged tap can produce out-of-tolerance threads that compromise seal integrity in pressure applications.
