The OSG 1312600 is a standard NPTF pipe tap designed to cut 1/8-27 tapered pipe threads in metal workpieces. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers reliable thread-cutting performance in carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum. The 4-flute configuration provides stable cutting action and efficient chip evacuation. With an overall length of 2.126 inches and a 0.75-inch thread length, this tap is sized for use in hand tapping or machine tapping applications on pipe fittings, fluid ports, and hydraulic connections. Machinists, pipefitters, and plumbers use this tool to create pressure-tight NPTF threads in fabrication and repair work.
This tap is suited for threading pipe ports and fluid passages in residential and commercial plumbing, hydraulic systems, and HVAC equipment where 1/8-27 NPTF connections are required. The NPTF thread profile creates a dry-seal mechanical fit without relying solely on sealant, making it appropriate for pressurized fluid and gas connections. It is commonly used in shop environments and field repair situations where accurate, repeatable pipe thread cutting is required in ferrous and non-ferrous base materials.
Designed for cutting 1/8-27 NPTF tapered pipe threads in carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum workpieces. Fits standard tap holders and machine spindles accepting a 0.4375-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed in a properly sized tap holder or machine spindle and operated at speeds appropriate for the base material being threaded. Use a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping to prevent movement and thread damage. Inspect the finished threads with a NPTF thread gauge to verify proper fit before assembling pressurized connections.
