The OSG 1310700 is a standard NPT pipe tap designed to cut 1-11/2 internal pipe threads in metal workpieces. It is manufactured from high-speed steel and carries a bright/uncoated finish, making it suitable for general-purpose tapping where additional coating is not required. The tap features 5 flutes with a regular hook geometry and is built to produce threads that conform to the National Pipe Taper standard. With an overall length of 3.75 inches and a thread length of 1.75 inches, it fits standard tap wrenches and machine setups used by machinists, pipefitters, and plumbing professionals threading pipe fittings and couplings on the job or in a shop environment.
This tap is intended for threading 1-inch nominal pipe connections per NPT specifications. It is well suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, HVAC piping, and industrial pipefitting applications where NPT-threaded connections are required. The material application range covers carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum, making it a versatile choice for a variety of pipe materials encountered in mechanical and plumbing service work. It is sold individually and is appropriate for both hand tapping with a tap wrench and machine-assisted tapping on a drill press or tapping machine.
Designed for use in carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum workpieces requiring 1-11/2 NPT internal pipe threads. Compatible with standard tap wrenches and machine tapping setups accepting a 1.125-inch shank diameter with a 0.843-inch square drive.
Pipe taps should be installed by qualified pipefitters, machinists, or plumbing professionals. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size before tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid to extend tap life and improve thread quality, especially when working with cast iron or steel. Follow applicable plumbing and mechanical codes when cutting NPT threads for pressure-bearing connections.
