The OSG 1310000 is a standard NPT pipe tap designed to cut 1/16-27 tapered pipe threads in a variety of metals. It features 4 regular-hook flutes ground from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish. The tap produces a standard NPT thread profile suited for creating leak-resistant pipe fittings and threaded port connections. With an overall length of approximately 2.126 inches and a thread length of 0.6875 inches (11/16 inches), the 1310000 is sized for small-bore pipe threading tasks performed by plumbers, pipefitters, machinists, and HVAC technicians. The 0.3125-inch shank diameter accepts standard tap handles and machine holders in the appropriate size range.
This tap is intended for threading small-bore NPT ports and fittings in residential and light commercial applications. It is well-suited for cutting threads in carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum workpieces. Typical use cases include threading instrument ports, gas fittings, hydraulic fittings, and pipe nipple connections where a 1/16-27 NPT thread is specified. The standard series 108 design makes it a common choice for both manual tapping with a tap wrench and light-duty machine tapping setups.
Designed for use in standard tap handles, T-handle wrenches, and machine tap holders accepting a 0.3125-inch shank. Compatible with workpiece materials including carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum as rated for this tool.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist, pipefitter, or plumber familiar with hand and machine tapping procedures. Apply an appropriate cutting oil or tapping fluid before and during use to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and align the tap perpendicular to the drilled hole to avoid tap breakage. Back the tap out periodically to clear chips, particularly when tapping deeper ports or harder materials.
