The OSG 1305712208 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting internal 3/8-16 UNC right-hand threads in demanding ferrous and exotic materials. Built from powdered metal and finished with a TICN coating, this tap delivers extended tool life in applications where high heat and abrasion accelerate wear on standard tooling. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. With a 10-degree helix angle and three right-hand spiral flutes, it effectively evacuates chips upward out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing in interrupted or deep-hole cuts. Qualified machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance mechanics rely on this tap for precision tapping operations where dimensional control and finish matter.
This tap is suited for threading blind and through holes in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. The 2B class of fit and H5 thread limit make it appropriate for standard commercial and industrial fastener applications requiring controlled tolerances. Typical use cases include production machining, maintenance and repair operations, and prototype work where consistent thread form in hard or gummy materials is required. No coolant-through capability is built in, so flood or external coolant delivery is used during tapping.
Designed for cutting 3/8-16 UNC internal threads in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. Part of the OSG EXOTAP VC-10TI series (Series 313TI), intended for difficult-to-machine materials where standard taps fail prematurely.
This tap is intended for use by trained machinists and toolroom professionals. Secure the tap in a rigid tapping holder or synchronous tapping chuck sized for the 0.255-inch shank diameter before beginning any operation. Ensure the workpiece is firmly fixtured and the spindle is powered down before loading or removing tooling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or flood coolant externally, as this tap does not have coolant-through capability; adequate lubrication is especially critical when threading stainless steel and titanium to prevent galling and tap breakage.
