The OSG 1301301508 is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for cutting internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It produces a 5/8-11 UNC right-hand thread at a 2B class of fit, making it suitable for standard fastener-tolerance tapped holes. The tap is manufactured from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with a TICN coating, which increases surface hardness and reduces friction to extend tool life in production and maintenance threading operations. With a 15-degree helix angle and 4 spiral flutes, it efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole, making it well suited for through-holes and shallow blind holes where chip management is critical.
This tap is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working on CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping machines. Its bottoming chamfer allows threads to be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole. It is rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, and die steel, covering the most common workpiece materials encountered in general metalworking, mold and die, and manufacturing maintenance applications. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed and production-volume tapping operations.
Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, and die steel. Part of the OSG Series 13013 spiral flute tap family.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or drill press with a tapping attachment. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before beginning the threading cycle. Cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied to reduce heat and extend tap life. Never reverse a bottoming tap in a blind hole without confirming adequate chip clearance to avoid tap breakage.
