The OSG 1243202 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Ground to a 5/8-11 UNC thread form with a 2B class of fit, it delivers accurate, consistent threads suitable for general-purpose fastener applications. The three-flute, right-hand spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations. Manufactured from high-speed steel and finished with OSG elektraLUBE coating, the tap provides reduced friction and improved tool life compared to uncoated equivalents. Thread length is 1-13/16 inches and the thread limit is H5, ensuring compatibility with standard tolerance requirements.
This tap is intended for use in machine tapping operations across production and maintenance environments. The 5/8-11 UNC size is common in structural, industrial, and mechanical assemblies where coarse-thread fasteners are specified. Suitable for tapping through holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics working in job shops, manufacturing facilities, or MRO settings will find this tap appropriate for a broad range of threading applications. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed for tapping 5/8-11 UNC through holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Suitable for use with standard tap holders and machine tapping equipment configured for right-hand thread cutting.
This tap should be installed in a rigid tap holder or floating tap holder appropriate for the machine being used. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before beginning the tapping cycle. Always apply cutting fluid or verify that the elektraLUBE coating provides sufficient lubrication for the material being tapped. Do not reverse feed manually on CNC equipment without confirming the machine is programmed for synchronized tapping.
