The OSG 1233601 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Sized at 3/4-10 UNC with a 3-flute spiral point geometry, this tap pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, making it well suited for through-hole threading applications. Built from high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it delivers good wear resistance and reduced friction during the threading operation. The thread limit is H3, providing a close fit tolerance appropriate for standard UNC fastener assemblies. Overall length is 4.25 inches with a thread length of 1.22 inches and a shank diameter of 0.59 inches.
This tap is used in production and maintenance threading applications across metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, and repair environments. It is appropriate for threading through-holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The plug chamfer style requires a pre-existing through-hole and is the most common tap style selected for general-purpose machine and hand tapping where the tool can pass fully through the workpiece. Machinists and maintenance technicians in industrial, HVAC fabrication, and mechanical service settings routinely use this size for structural fastener installations.

This tap should be installed in a rigid tap holder or used with a tapping head to maintain axial alignment with the pre-drilled hole. Power down all spindle equipment and secure the workpiece before beginning the threading operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Inspection of thread form with a thread plug gauge after tapping is standard practice in quality-controlled environments.
