The OSG 1226600 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading 3/8-16 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap uses a spiral point geometry to push chips ahead of the cutting edge and out of the hole, reducing chip packing and improving thread quality in through-hole applications. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread engagement, making it well suited to production tapping where controlled lead-in is required. With 3 flutes and an H2 thread limit, it delivers consistent tolerance control for standard UNC fastener fits. Licensed machinists, toolroom techs, and production floor operators commonly reach for this tap for general-purpose threading work.
This tap is appropriate for through-hole tapping in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. It performs in both manual and machine tapping setups where chip evacuation forward is preferable to chip extraction backward. The plug chamfer makes it a practical first choice on production lines running mixed material batches. It is not configured for blind-hole applications where chips cannot exit forward. OSG Series 105 taps are recognized as a general-purpose workhorse for job shops and manufacturing environments alike.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tap for 3/8-16 UNC through-hole threading operations in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 105 tap family.
This tap is intended for installation by machinists or toolroom technicians using standard tapping heads, drill presses, or CNC machining centers with tapping capability. Ensure the drill press or machine spindle is powered down and locked out before mounting or changing the tap. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. This tap is designed for through-hole applications only — do not use in blind holes where chips cannot be displaced forward.
