The OSG 1225802 is a spiral point tap designed to cut 5/16-18 UNC right-hand threads in through-hole applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) and finished with an elektraLUBE coating, it features a plug chamfer and 2-flute geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting action. This design keeps the flutes clear during threading and reduces the risk of chip packing in production environments. The H2 thread limit provides a standard tolerance class suitable for general-purpose UNC threading. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics use this tap in both manual and CNC tapping operations.
The 1225802 is suited for through-hole tapping in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The elektraLUBE coating reduces friction and extends tool life across aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel applications. Its 1.125-inch thread length accommodates typical through-hole depths for 5/16-18 UNC fastener applications in fabrication, maintenance, and light manufacturing work.
Designed for use in manual tap handles, tapping attachments, and CNC tapping cycles that accept standard straight-shank spiral point taps in 5/16-18 UNC. Suitable for the materials listed: aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping operations and appropriate cutting fluid application. Always secure the workpiece and use a properly sized tap handle or tapping chuck to avoid side-loading, which can break the tap. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before and during the tapping cycle. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the cutting edges show damage.
