The OSG 1213502 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 10-24 UNC threads in through-hole and bottoming applications. It features a 2-flute, right-hand configuration with an H3 thread limit and a bottoming chamfer, allowing the tap to cut threads close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 7/8-inch thread length and 2B/3B class of fit make this tap suitable for standard and close-tolerance threading work. The high-speed steel (HSS) construction is coated with OSG elektraLUBE, a dry-film lubricant that reduces friction and extends tool life without requiring additional cutting fluids in many applications. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and maintenance technicians typically use this tap.
This tap is rated for use across a broad range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The bottoming chamfer makes it well suited for blind-hole threading jobs where full thread depth close to the hole bottom is required. It is commonly used in production machining, maintenance and repair operations, and toolroom environments where 10-24 UNC threads are a standard fastener specification.
Rated for threading aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Produces 10-24 UNC threads at 2B and 3B class of fit per OSG Series 105B specifications.
Tap installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with tapping speeds and feeds for the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping, and ensure the starter hole diameter is correct for a 10-24 UNC tap prior to use. Although the elektraLUBE coating reduces the need for cutting fluid in many materials, additional lubrication may improve tool life in harder alloys. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if thread quality degrades.
