The OSG 1212500 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish, this tap features a bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. It carries a 2B class of fit and an H3 thread limit, making it appropriate for standard tolerance fastener applications. The 2-flute spiral point design pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, which helps maintain clean thread form and reduces the risk of chip packing. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 11/16 inches.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance applications across machine shops, fabrication facilities, and field repair environments. Its bottoming chamfer makes it the right choice when full thread depth is required near the base of a blind hole. The 6-32 UNC thread form is common in light-gauge sheet metal, electronic enclosures, and small mechanical assemblies. Compatible material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Right-hand thread direction follows standard convention for the vast majority of fastener installations.
Designed for cutting 6-32 UNC right-hand internal threads. Compatible material applications as specified include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel.
This tap should be installed and operated by a machinist or qualified technician familiar with tapping procedures and cutting parameters. Always ensure the workpiece is properly secured and the correct tap drill size for 6-32 UNC is used prior to tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged tap can destroy the threaded hole and risk breakage in the bore.
