The OSG 1212405 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It runs a 6-32 UNC thread form with a plug chamfer and right-hand thread direction, making it a standard choice for through-hole tapping operations. The tap is manufactured from high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that increases surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 0.39 inches (11/16 inches nominal). The H3 thread limit holds a 2B class of fit, which suits most general-purpose fastener applications. Coolant-through design is not included.

Installation Notes

This tap should be installed in a properly sized tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC spindle with an appropriate tap holder. Always use a correctly sized 6-32 tap drill to prepare the hole before tapping. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed for the workpiece material, and back the tap out periodically to clear chips when working in blind-hole conditions, even though this tap is optimized for through-hole use.
