The OSG 1211002 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 3-48 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) and finished with an elektraLUBE coating, it features a plug chamfer and 2-flute geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, keeping the flutes clear during through-hole tapping operations. The H3 thread limit provides a controlled oversize tolerance suited to standard UNC thread fits. This tap is intended for use by machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance professionals working on threaded fastener applications.
The 1211002 is applicable to through-hole tapping in materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. It is well suited to both production and maintenance environments where 3-48 UNC threads are required. The 0.5 inch thread length accommodates typical fastener engagement depths at this thread size. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional UNC fastener applications.

This tap should be used by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping operations and machine tool safety. Power down and secure any machine tool before mounting the tap in the chuck or holder. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap; apply cutting fluid manually or via flood coolant to the work surface as appropriate for the material being tapped. Follow applicable shop safety standards and verify thread fit with a go/no-go gauge after tapping.
