The OSG 1210600 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 2-56 UNC internal threads in a wide range of materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish, this tap pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole tapping applications. The 2-flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation and reduced torque requirements. At 1.75 inches overall length with a 7/16 inch (0.441 inch) thread length and a 0.141 inch shank diameter, it fits standard tap holders and machine spindles. Thread limit is H3, indicating a tolerance class appropriate for standard UNC thread fits. Installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool and die professionals.
This tap is designed for through-hole tapping in both manual and CNC machine tool applications. It is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The spiral point geometry makes it a practical choice for production environments where chip control in through holes is a priority. The right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional UNC fastener applications across industrial, HVAC equipment, electrical enclosure, and general mechanical assembly work.
Designed for through-hole tapping of 2-56 UNC threads. Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Not intended for interrupted threads or coolant-through tooling setups.
This tap should be installed in a properly sized tap holder or floating holder to maintain alignment and reduce the risk of breakage, especially at the small 2-56 diameter. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before tapping. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for the material being tapped, even though this tap does not require coolant-through delivery. Follow standard shop safety practices and machine tool operating procedures when running in CNC or manual drill press applications.
