The OSG 1208200 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 8-36 UNF holes in a wide range of metals. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the cutting action, keeping the flutes clear and reducing the risk of chip packing in through-hole applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap carries an H2 thread limit and produces threads to a 2B and 3B class of fit. With a 2-flute, plug chamfer configuration, it suits production environments and job-shop use alike. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for right-hand threading in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in, making it a practical choice for through-hole tapping where the tap can pass fully through the workpiece. The 8-36 UNF thread size is common in instrument, electronics, and precision mechanical assemblies where a fine-pitch thread in a small fastener is required.
Designed for 8-36 UNF through-hole tapping in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 105.
Install in a tapping head, CNC machine, or hand tap wrench sized for the 0.168-inch shank diameter. Power down and secure the workpiece before beginning. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Do not reverse the tap under load without disengaging the drive, as this can cause breakage in small-diameter taps.
