The OSG 1205805 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 2-64 UNF internal threads in a wide range of materials. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers extended tool life and reduced friction during cutting. It features a plug chamfer, 2 flutes, and a right-hand thread direction, making it a standard choice for through-hole tapping applications. The H2 thread limit ensures close tolerance control for 2B class of fit threads. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians rely on this series for precision threading in both production and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for threading small-diameter holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The plug chamfer style works well in through-hole applications where chip evacuation along the cutting path is required. Its compact shank diameter of 0.141 inches and overall length of 1.75 inches make it compatible with standard tap holders and CNC tooling setups used in light machining and precision assembly work.
Designed as an OEM-style threading tool for through-hole 2-64 UNF applications across aluminum, cast iron, and carbon steel workpieces; confirm tap holder compatibility with the 0.141-inch shank diameter before installation.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid tap holder. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for a 2-64 UNF thread before beginning. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as small-diameter taps are susceptible to breakage under misalignment or excessive torque.
