The OSG 1205702 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 2-56 UNC holes in metal workpieces. It features a bottoming chamfer, which allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with an elektraLUBE dry-film coating, this tap reduces friction and galling during the cutting process. It has 2 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, with a thread length of 0.4375 inches and an H2 thread limit for a 2B class of fit. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this tap for fine-thread applications in small-diameter holes.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where 2-56 UNC internal threads are required. The bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate for blind-hole applications where thread engagement must extend near the floor of the hole. The elektraLUBE coating supports dry or minimal-lubrication tapping in a range of materials. It is typically run in CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping machines.
Designed for cutting 2-56 UNC internal threads in applications requiring a bottoming tap with a 2B class of fit.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder or collet with proper axial alignment to the drilled hole. Always use the correct tap drill size for 2-56 UNC before tapping. Even with the elektraLUBE coating, applying a compatible cutting fluid is recommended for hard or abrasive materials. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as fine-pitch taps in small diameters are susceptible to breakage under misalignment or excessive feed force.
