The OSG 1195102 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metals. It features 2 flutes, a plug chamfer for general-purpose through-hole and blind-hole tapping, and is manufactured from high-speed steel for durability under repeated use. The H3 thread limit provides consistent tolerance control for 3B class-of-fit thread production. With a 1-inch thread length and a 2.5-inch overall length, this tap fits standard tap handles and machine tap holders used in production and maintenance tapping operations. Licensed machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
This tap is suited for manual hand tapping and machine tapping applications across a broad spectrum of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Typical use cases include threading tapped holes in fabricated steel assemblies, aluminum enclosures, cast iron components, and medium- to high-carbon steel workpieces. It performs in both job shop and production environments where 1/4-20 UNC threads are a common fastener standard. The straight flute design works best in through-hole applications and shorter blind holes where chip evacuation can be managed with periodic withdrawal.
Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Designed as a standard 1/4-20 UNC plug tap compatible with conventional tap handles and machine tap holders accepting this tap size and shank geometry.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap handle, tapping head, or CNC machine with a rigid or floating tap holder. Always drill the correct tap drill size before threading to avoid overloading the tap and to achieve the specified thread percentage. Secure the workpiece firmly and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped. For machine tapping, verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the material to prevent tap breakage.
