The OSG 11509115 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in metalworking and machining applications. Ground from vanadium high speed steel with a multi-layer coating, this bit is built to handle demanding materials including steel, alloy steel, aluminum, and aluminum silicate. The 140-degree faceted point reduces thrust and improves self-centering on entry. At 0.0550 inches (No. 54 wire gauge) in diameter and 1.6142 inches overall length, it fits compact, tight-tolerance drilling setups where standard jobber-length bits are too long. The straight cylindrical shank seats cleanly in drill chucks and quick-change holders.
This bit is designed for use in screw machine operations, CNC drilling centers, turret lathes, and other production drilling environments where short-length geometry provides better rigidity and reduced deflection. With a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio, it clears chips efficiently in shallow-to-medium-depth holes. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and production drilling technicians working in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and aerospace component work will find this bit suited to precision hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Designed for use with steel, alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Fits standard drill chucks accepting a 3.00 mm (approximately 0.118 inch) straight shank. Part of OSG Series 1150 screw machine length drill bits covering the 0.0000 to 0.1000 inch decimal inch size range.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tool operators familiar with cutting tool setups. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing or inspecting tooling. Secure the shank fully within the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-recommended grip depth to prevent pullout under load. Always verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before initiating a cut.
