The OSG 1143100 is a straight flute plug tap designed for right-hand thread cutting in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it cuts a 9/16-12 UNC thread profile and is ground to an H5 thread limit for consistent dimensional accuracy. The plug chamfer style - typically 3 to 5 threads of lead - makes it suitable for through-hole and moderately deep blind-hole applications. With 4 flutes and a 1-21/32 inch thread length, this tap delivers reliable chip clearance during hand or machine tapping operations. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance tapping of aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. It fits standard tap chucks and tapping heads used on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual tapping arms. The Series 101 designation identifies it within the OSG standard straight flute tap line. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or brush-applied cutting fluid should be used at the tool-workpiece interface to manage heat and chip evacuation when tapping steel.

This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping procedures and cutting speeds for the workpiece material. Always secure the workpiece fully before beginning the tapping operation and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole to prevent tap breakage. Apply a suitable cutting fluid continuously during the tapping cycle, particularly when working in steel. Remove the tap and clear chips periodically on deeper holes to prevent chip packing and tap failure.
