The OSG 1123702 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to a 5/8-11 UNC specification. Built from high-speed steel, it delivers the hardness and wear resistance needed for production and repair tapping across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The plug chamfer style distributes cutting load across several leading threads, making it suited for through-hole applications. With a thread limit of H3 and a 3B class of fit, this tap produces threads that meet standard fastener clearance tolerances. Thread length measures 1-13/16 inches and overall length is 3-13/16 inches. It is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals in both shop and field environments.
This tap is appropriate for through-hole tapping operations on a wide range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The straight flute geometry works best in shorter-chipping materials where chip evacuation through the flute is not a limiting factor. It is suited for manual tapping with a tap wrench or use in a drill press, tapping machine, or CNC machining center where direct coolant-through is not required. The Series 101 designation places it within OSG standard catalog taps for general-purpose threading work.
Designed as a general-purpose straight flute tap for through-hole applications in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Coolant-through tooling is not required for use with this tap.
Taps should be installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with threading operations and applicable shop safety practices. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the spindle or tap wrench is properly aligned before beginning the cut to avoid tap breakage. Power down and de-energize any machine tool before changing or setting the tap in the holder. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and produce clean thread forms.
