The OSG 1123100 is a straight flute plug tap designed for right-hand threading operations in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap cuts 9/16-12 UNC threads with 4 flutes and an H3 thread limit tolerance. The plug chamfer - typically 3 to 5 threads - allows the tap to start easily in through-holes and blind holes with adequate clearance. Overall length is 3-19/32 inches, with a thread length of 1-21/32 inches. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians rely on this tap for accurate, clean thread production in production and repair environments.
This tap is suited for tapping operations in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The straight flute geometry makes it well matched for short-chipping materials where chip evacuation is predictable. It is appropriate for use in both manual tapping handles and machine tapping setups at controlled feeds and speeds. The H3 tolerance class supports standard thread fits in most commercial and industrial fastener applications.
Designed for use in any standard tapping application requiring 9/16-12 UNC right-hand threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, or medium-carbon steel workpieces.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with threading operations and toolholder requirements. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before beginning the cut - misalignment is the primary cause of tap breakage. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material before and during the operation. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine manufacturer guidelines when setting spindle speed and feed rate.
