The OSG 1111100 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for threading 5/16-24 UNF holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features 4 flutes and a bottoming chamfer, allowing threads to be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole. The overall length is 2-23/32 inches with a thread length of 1-21/32 inches. Right-hand thread direction and an H2 thread limit provide controlled fit and consistent tolerance across production runs. This tap is suited for machine tapping and hand tapping operations in both job-shop and production environments.
This tap is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The straight flute design makes it effective in materials that produce short, brittle chips, where chip evacuation back through the flute is manageable. It is a practical choice for general-purpose threading tasks in machining, maintenance, and fabrication applications where a bottoming chamfer is required to thread near the bottom of a blind hole.
Designed for 5/16-24 UNF threading applications in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 101.
This tap should be installed and used by machinists or maintenance professionals familiar with tapping operations. Always secure the workpiece and use a properly aligned tap holder or tapping head to avoid tap breakage. Ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 5/16-24 UNF before threading. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce wear and improve thread quality.
