The OSG 1105612508 is a spiral point tap designed for threading operations in demanding materials including hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, titanium, and alloy steel. Built from powdered metal and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers the wear resistance and hardness retention required for production tapping in tough workpiece materials. It produces a 7/16-14 UNC right-hand thread, has 3 flutes in a plug chamfer configuration, and conforms to an H3 thread limit tolerance. The overall length is 3.157 inches with a thread length of 0.858 inches. It is part of the OSG 312TI series and is suited for use in CNC machining centers and manual tapping applications.
This tap is intended for shop-floor use in metalworking environments where high-performance threading into difficult alloys is required. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in, making it appropriate for through-hole tapping applications. The TiCN coating reduces friction and extends tool life in abrasive and work-hardening materials such as stainless steel and titanium. It is commonly used in aerospace, industrial manufacturing, and general machining operations where reliable thread quality in challenging materials is critical.
Designed for threading 7/16-14 UNC through-holes in hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, titanium, and alloy steel workpieces. Part of the OSG 312TI series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or manual tap handle with appropriate torque control. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle or driver is properly aligned before beginning the tapping cycle. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Disconnect power to any automated equipment before performing tool changes or manual adjustments.
