The OSG 1102500 is a straight flute plug tap designed for creating internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap is sized for 1/2-13 UNC threads and features 4 flutes for efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications. It carries a right-hand thread direction, an H1 thread limit for close-tolerance work, and a plug chamfer that distributes the cutting load across the first few threads for controlled entry. Overall length is 3.375 inches with a thread length of 1-21/32 inches. Machinists and maintenance technicians install this tap by hand or with a tapping head on a drill press or CNC machine.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance tapping operations across aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The plug chamfer makes it appropriate for through-hole applications and for starting threads in blind holes where a bottoming tap will finish the job. The H1 thread limit keeps tolerances tight, making this a practical choice for general-purpose machine shops, field maintenance crews, and tool-and-die work requiring consistent 1/2-13 UNC internal threads.
Designed for 1/2-13 UNC tapping applications in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 101 straight flute tap line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping operations. Always secure the workpiece and align the tap perpendicular to the drilled hole before applying torque. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Back the tap out periodically to break chips when tapping deeper holes, and never force a tap that has stopped advancing.
