The OSG 1101700208 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 6-32 UNC holes in a wide range of metallic materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel (HSS-E) and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, this plug-chamfer tap pushes chips forward during cutting, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations. The 2-flute design provides efficient chip evacuation and cutting clearance. With an H3 thread limit and a 2B class of fit, it produces threads that meet standard fastener tolerances for machine screw applications. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and MRO technicians are the typical end users.
This tap is sized for 6-32 UNC threads, which appear frequently in light-gauge sheet metal assemblies, electronic enclosures, instrumentation panels, and general machine shop work. The plug chamfer (3-5 thread lead) allows the tap to start easily in a drilled through-hole before full cutting engagement. Material compatibility includes aluminum, low-, medium-, and high-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel. It is not designed for coolant-through delivery and does not produce an interrupted thread profile.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tap for 6-32 UNC through-hole tapping applications in machine shop, MRO, and production environments. Compatible material groups include aluminum, hardened steel, stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, alloy steel, die steel, and cast iron, as stated in manufacturer specifications.
Machinist or toolroom personnel should select the correct tap drill size for a 6-32 UNC thread before use; consult a standard tap drill chart for the recommended hole diameter. Power down or disengage the machine spindle before loading the tap into the holder, and verify that the workpiece is securely fixtured. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear after each job; a worn or chipped tap should be replaced before it produces out-of-tolerance threads or breaks in the hole.
