The OSG 1101600503 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. Built from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) with a nitride coating, this tap handles the heat and wear demands of production threading. It cuts a 10-24 UNC right-hand thread to a 2B class of fit with an H3 thread limit, producing consistent dimensional accuracy across repeated use. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across the leading threads, making it a reliable choice for general-purpose tapping in both manual and machine setups. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians use this tap for fastener hole preparation in steel, aluminum, and cast aluminum workpieces.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in aluminum and cast aluminum as noted in the manufacturer specification, though it performs across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials in that thread class. With an overall length of 2.748 inches and a thread length of 0.492 inches, it fits standard tap holders and quick-change chucks used on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and tapping heads. The 3-flute geometry provides good chip clearance in moderate-depth holes, and the spiral point pushes chips ahead of the tap rather than packing them in the flute, reducing the risk of tap breakage in through-hole work.

Install this tap in a properly aligned tap holder or floating tap chuck to avoid side loading, which is the primary cause of tap breakage in small-diameter taps. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before tapping; aluminum requires a dedicated aluminum-cutting fluid or light oil. Ensure the spindle speed is set to a value appropriate for the material and tap diameter before starting the cut. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace at the first sign of dull cutting action to prevent thread damage in the workpiece.
