The OSG 1101600103 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in through-hole applications. It produces a 2-56 UNC thread profile with a plug chamfer, which provides a gradual lead-in and is suited for most standard through-hole tapping operations. The tap is manufactured from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) and finished with a nitride coating to reduce friction, resist wear, and extend tool life. With 2 flutes and an H2 thread limit, it holds tight dimensional tolerances consistent with a 2B class of fit. Overall length is 1.772 inches with a 7/16-inch (0.437-inch) thread length and a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
This tap is suited for threading small-diameter through holes in aluminum and cast aluminum workpieces, where chip evacuation and thread quality are critical. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it effective in production environments and CNC machining centers. It is a standard choice for machine shops, maintenance facilities, and manufacturing lines working in the 2-56 UNC thread range on light-metal components.
Designed for tapping 2-56 UNC through holes in aluminum and cast aluminum. Compatible with standard tap holders and CNC tooling chucks accepting a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by a machinist or tooling technician in a drill press, tapping head, or CNC machining center. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole to prevent breakage on this small-diameter tool. Use appropriate cutting fluid for aluminum even when coolant-through is not required. Follow shop standard speeds and feeds for 2-56 taps in high-speed steel to avoid overloading the flutes.
