The OSG 1101507105 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading operations in a wide range of materials. Built from vanadium high speed steel (HSS-E-PM) and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and heat dissipation compared to uncoated HSS tools. It cuts a 6-40 UNF right-hand thread with 3 flutes and carries a Thread Limit of H4, making it suitable for tight-tolerance threading applications. Overall length is 2 inches, with a thread length of 0.374 inches and a shank diameter of 0.14 inches. Machinists and tool and die professionals reach for this tap when threading small-diameter fastener holes in production and repair environments.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward through the hole, keeping the flutes clear and reducing the risk of tap breakage in production runs. It is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping arms where controlled feed rates can be maintained. This tap does not support coolant-through delivery and is not designed for interrupted thread or oversize thread applications.
Designed for through-hole threading of 6-40 UNF threads in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Part of OSG Series 11015.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists using standard tapping chucks, tapping arms, or CNC rigid-tapping cycles. Always ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped before changing taps. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and reduce the risk of galling, particularly in stainless steel and titanium. Follow shop safety practices when handling small-diameter taps, as they are susceptible to breakage if cross-threaded or over-torqued.
