The OSG 1069100 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed to cut internal threads in pre-drilled holes where thread engagement is required close to the bottom of a blind hole. Made from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it cuts a 10-24 UNC right-hand thread. The bottoming chamfer provides only 1 to 2 threads of lead, allowing the tap to thread nearly to the full depth of a blind bore. With an overall length of 2.375 inches and a thread length of 0.875 inches, this tap is sized for standard hand-tap or machine-tap applications in metalworking and maintenance operations. Licensed machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
This tap is suited for threading operations in both production and repair contexts. It performs in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The straight flute geometry makes it appropriate for through holes and short blind holes where chip ejection back through the entry is acceptable. It is typically used as the third tap in a hand-tapping sequence following a taper and plug tap, or as the primary tap on CNC equipment with appropriate feed control.
Designed for tapping 10-24 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 104.
This tap is installed using a standard tap wrench or machine tap holder. Secure the workpiece before tapping and ensure the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended drill size for 10-24 UNC threads. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. When using in a blind hole, clear chips frequently to prevent tap breakage.
