The OSG 1065200 is a straight flute tap designed to cut 2-56 UNC internal threads in a bottoming chamfer configuration. With 2 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it removes chips efficiently in through-hole and shallow blind-hole applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable performance across a range of workpiece materials. The H2 thread limit ensures consistent tolerance control for a 2B class of fit. Overall length is 1.75 inches, with a thread length of 0.4375 inches (7/16 inches). It is suited for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working with small-diameter threaded fastener installations.
This tap is intended for production and maintenance tapping operations where a bottoming chamfer is required to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. It performs in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The 2-56 thread size is common in small instrument assemblies, electronic enclosures, and precision mechanical components. The straight flute geometry makes it well suited for through-hole work and short-chipping materials. It fits standard straight-shank tap holders and machine tapping setups.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank tap holders and machine tapping setups compatible with 2-56 UNC thread specification. Suitable for tapping aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician using a properly sized tap holder or tapping chuck. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole before beginning the cut. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. A bottoming tap is typically used as a finishing step after a plug or taper tap has been run first to establish the thread lead.
