The OSG 1063200 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for threading 5/8-11 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish and features 4 flutes for reliable chip management in through and blind hole applications. With an overall length of 3-13/16 inches and a thread length of 1-13/16 inches, this tap is sized for standard machine tapping operations. The H2 thread limit ensures close dimensional tolerances on the finished thread. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians typically install this tap in manual or CNC tapping operations.
This bottoming tap is used when threads must extend to the bottom of a blind hole, leaving minimal incomplete thread at the base. It is suited for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. It is appropriate for both production shop and maintenance-repair contexts where a full-depth thread in a blind hole is required. A starting tap or plug tap should be used before this bottoming tap to pre-form the thread when tapping deeper holes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application tap for standard 5/8-11 UNC tapping operations in manual, turret, or CNC tapping equipment accepting a 0.48-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping speeds and feeds for the workpiece material. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the material being threaded to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the hole axis before beginning the tapping cycle. When using in a blind hole, use a plug or taper tap to start the thread before advancing to this bottoming tap.
