The OSG 1050702 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting internal 10-24 UNC right-hand threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high-speed steel, it delivers consistent thread quality in production and maintenance environments. The plug chamfer - typically 3 to 5 threads - makes it the standard choice for through-hole tapping where the tap can advance past the full thread length. Three flutes provide balanced cutting action and adequate chip clearance. With an overall length of 2.375 inches and a thread length of 0.875 inches, it fits standard tap holders and machine setups without adapter modifications.
This tap is suited for manual hand-tapping operations and machine tapping on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and tapping arms. The H3 thread limit designates a tolerance range calibrated for general-purpose 2B and 3B class-of-fit threads. It performs in light to medium production runs on aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics working in shop, field, or industrial settings are the primary users.
Designed for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces requiring a 10-24 UNC internal thread. Compatible with standard 10-24 tap holders, tap wrenches, and floating tap adapters.
A licensed machinist or trained toolroom technician should select the correct tap drill size for a 10-24 UNC thread before tapping. Always secure the workpiece and ensure proper alignment between the tap and the pre-drilled hole to prevent tap breakage. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material - sulfurized oil for steel, water-soluble coolant or petroleum-based fluid for aluminum. Back the tap out periodically during hand tapping to break and clear chips, especially in blind-hole applications.
