The OSG 1028602 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for threading operations in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS), it cuts a 10-32 UNF right-hand thread with a 3-flute configuration that provides clean chip evacuation in through and blind holes. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the right choice when full thread depth is required near the base of a bore. With a thread length of 0.875 inches and an overall length of 2.375 inches, this tap is sized for use in standard hand tap handles and machine tapping setups. The H7 thread limit designation ensures dimensional consistency across production runs.
This tap is suited for manual hand tapping and CNC machine tapping operations in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments. The 10-32 UNF thread is a standard fine-pitch fastener size common in instrument panels, electrical enclosures, and precision assemblies. It is compatible with a range of materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel, making it a versatile choice for mixed-material work environments.
Designed for cutting 10-32 UNF threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Suitable for use with standard tap wrenches, T-handles, and machine tapping attachments that accept straight-shank taps.
This tap is installed by a machinist or maintenance technician using a standard tap wrench or appropriate machine holder. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 10-32 UNF before beginning the threading operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. As a bottoming tap, it should be used as the final step in a tap sequence after a taper or plug tap has been used to start the thread in blind holes.
