The OSG 1028500 is a straight flute plug tap designed to cut right-hand internal threads to the 10-32 UNF standard. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent thread formation in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The plug chamfer - typically 3 to 5 threads - suits both through-hole and moderately deep blind-hole applications where a starter tap is not required. The H7 thread limit provides controlled oversize of 0.0030 inches, supporting proper fit for standard 10-32 fasteners. Three straight flutes evacuate chips downward, making this tap well suited to manual and machine tapping operations in production and repair environments.
This tap is appropriate for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. It fits standard tap wrench chucks and CNC tapping heads that accept the 0.194-inch shank diameter. The 7/8-inch thread length and 2-3/8-inch overall length make it a compact, general-purpose choice for machine shops, maintenance facilities, and field service technicians working on threaded fastener repairs or new thread creation in metal components.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard production tap for 10-32 UNF threaded applications in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with tap wrenches, tapping heads, and CNC machine spindles accepting a 0.194-inch round shank.
Machinists and maintenance technicians should ensure the workpiece is properly fixtured and the tap is started perpendicular to the work surface to avoid thread misalignment. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material before and during the tapping operation. For blind-hole applications, confirm hole depth exceeds the required thread engagement length to avoid bottoming out the plug chamfer before full thread depth is achieved. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping between uses; a damaged tap should not be reused, as it can seize or produce out-of-tolerance threads.
