The OSG 1024908 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting internal 10-24 UNC threads in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. It features four flutes, a plug chamfer style, and a 2B class of fit, making it suited for standard through-hole and blind-hole threading applications where chip evacuation is managed manually or with coolant flushing. The tap is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating that extends tool life and reduces friction against the workpiece. Overall length is 2-3/8 inches, thread length is 7/8 inches, and shank diameter is 0.194 inches. This is a right-hand thread tool in OSG Series 102 with an H3 thread limit.
The OSG 1024908 is appropriate for production and maintenance tapping in materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. It is a standard-use tap well suited to machine tapping in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and tapping heads, as well as hand tapping in repair and field service environments. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — helps guide entry and is the most common style used by machinists and maintenance technicians for general-purpose threading.

Secure the tap in an appropriate tap holder, chuck, or tapping head rated for the shank diameter before use. Ensure the workpiece is firmly clamped and the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for 10-24 UNC threads per applicable machining standards before tapping begins. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. When tapping blind holes, monitor depth carefully to avoid bottoming the tap against the hole floor.
