The OSG 1024902 is a straight flute plug tap designed to cut internal threads in a wide range of metals. It features a 10-24 UNC thread form with 4 flutes and an H3 thread limit, manufactured from high-speed steel for durability across general-purpose tapping operations. The plug chamfer style - typically 3 to 5 threads of lead - makes it suitable for through-holes and deeper blind-hole applications where partial thread engagement at entry is acceptable. At 2.375 inches overall length with a 0.875 inch thread length, this tap fits standard toolholding setups used in machine shops and maintenance environments. Class of fit is 2B and 3B, covering the majority of standard threaded fastener applications.
This tap is used in production and maintenance tapping of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is suited for through-hole and blind-hole work in materials including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. Right-hand thread direction is standard. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand tapping fixtures. The 10-24 UNC size is common in light mechanical assemblies, instrument panels, and electrical enclosures.
Designed for tapping 10-24 UNC internal threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with standard tap holders and collet chucks sized for this shank geometry.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists and maintenance technicians using drill presses, tapping heads, or CNC machines with rigid or floating tap holders. Ensure the tap drill hole diameter is correct for 10-24 UNC before beginning - using an undersized hole will overload the tap and risk breakage. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material before and during tapping. On manual setups, back off periodically to break chips and prevent tap binding.
