The OSG 1024402 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high-speed steel, it cuts right-hand internal threads to a 2B class of fit with an H3 thread limit, delivering consistent thread accuracy in production and maintenance applications. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for work where full thread depth near the blind end is required. The 4-flute design provides rigidity and chip control across a range of workpiece materials. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a thread length of 0.75 inches.
This tap is used in machine shop, tool room, and field maintenance environments where 8-32 UNC threads are required. It is appropriate for both manual tapping and machine tapping setups at controlled feed rates. Suitable material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. It is a standard choice wherever a bottoming tap is needed to complete threads started by a taper or plug tap in a blind hole.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard production tap for any application requiring 8-32 UNC right-hand internal threads with a 2B class of fit in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, or medium-carbon steel workpieces.
Tapping should be performed by a machinist or maintenance technician familiar with thread-forming procedures and cutting tool speeds and feeds. The workpiece must be securely fixtured and the tap aligned perpendicular to the hole to avoid tap breakage. A suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound should be applied to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when operating tapping equipment.
