The OSG 1023702 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel, it delivers consistent thread geometry across production and maintenance applications. The plug chamfer - typically 3 to 5 threads - makes it suitable for through holes and moderately deep blind holes. With an H3 thread limit and a 2B class of fit, this tap produces threads that meet standard fastener assembly tolerances. Three flutes provide adequate chip clearance for the materials this tap is designed to handle. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 11/16 inches. Right-hand thread cutting only.
This tap is suited for tapping 6-32 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. It fits standard production and repair workflows in machining, fabrication, and maintenance environments. The straight flute design works best in materials that produce short, brittle chips that clear easily without spiral flute assistance. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians commonly use this tap in drill press, tapping arm, and hand-tapping setups.
Designed for tapping 6-32 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with standard tap holders and tapping heads accepting this shank size.
Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the correct tap drill size has been used for a 6-32 UNC thread to achieve proper thread engagement. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Power down or disengage any machine before loading or removing the tap from the holder. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use - a damaged tap can seize in the hole and break, requiring extraction.
