The OSG 1023601 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this tap produces right-hand 6-32 UNC threads with a 2B class of fit and an H3 thread limit. The taper chamfer makes it suitable for through-hole tapping applications where the tap can advance progressively into the workpiece. With an overall length of 2 inches and a thread length of 11/16 inches, it fits standard tap holders used in machining and fabrication shops. This tool is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals who need reliable thread creation in production or field repair scenarios.
This tap is well suited for tapping 6-32 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. It performs in both manual hand-tapping setups and machine tapping operations. The straight flute geometry is effective in through-hole applications and works with standard tapping fluids appropriate to the workpiece material. Typical use cases include machine frame assembly, electrical enclosure hardware, and general mechanical fastening where 6-32 threaded inserts are required.
Designed for tapping 6-32 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. Part of OSG Series 102.
Power down or de-energize any machine tool before securing or changing taps. Use a properly sized tap wrench or machine tap holder that matches the shank diameter to avoid slippage or breakage. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged tap can seize in the workpiece or produce out-of-tolerance threads.
