The OSG 1014305 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It cuts 8-32 UNC threads with a right-hand direction and features a plug chamfer for general through-hole and blind-hole applications. Built from high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, the tap offers improved wear resistance and extended tool life compared to uncoated HSS. With 4 flutes, a thread limit of H2, and a Class 3B fit, it produces threads suitable for close-tolerance fastener applications. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a 0.75-inch thread length. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This tap is suited for threading operations in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. It fits standard tap holders and extension handles designed for the number 8 tap size. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate for starting threads in through holes as well as moderately deep blind holes where a starter lead is acceptable. It is commonly used in production machining, MRO maintenance shops, and fabrication environments where 8-32 UNC is a frequently required fastener thread.
Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. Fits standard tap holders sized for number 8 taps. Part of OSG Series 102.
Install in a tapping head, CNC turret, or hand tap wrench rated for the number 8 tap size. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before starting the cut. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Reverse the tap periodically when hand tapping in blind holes to clear chips and reduce the risk of breakage.
