The OSG 1013202 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for threading 5-40 UNC holes in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from high-speed steel, it carries a 3-flute geometry and a bottoming chamfer, making it well-suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes where full thread depth is required. With an overall length of 1-15/16 inches and a thread length of 5/8 inches, the 1013202 fits standard tap handles and machines used in production and maintenance environments. Class of fit is 2B and 3B, with an H2 thread limit for consistent tolerance control. Right-hand thread direction is standard.
This tap is intended for use in general machining, toolroom, and maintenance applications where 5-40 UNC threads are required. Its straight flute design is effective in through-holes and short blind holes where chip clearance is manageable. The bottoming chamfer allows thread cutting to begin within 1 to 2 threads of the hole bottom. Machinists and maintenance technicians working with aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel will find this tap appropriate for their material range. It is a single-piece item with a minimum order quantity of 1.
Designed for tapping 5-40 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. Fits standard tap handles and machine spindles accepting this shank size.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with hand and machine tapping operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 5-40 UNC before beginning. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to extend tool life and improve thread quality. For machine tapping, verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the material and tap size before starting the cycle.
