The OSG 1013000 is a straight flute tap designed to cut 5-40 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features 3 flutes and a taper chamfer that guides the tap into the workpiece gradually, reducing the torque required to start the cut. The H2 thread limit provides a controlled fit for 2B and 3B class-of-fit applications. Overall length is 1-15/16 inches with a thread length of 5/8 inches. Straight flute geometry makes this tap well suited for through-hole and short blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is manageable with standard technique.
This tap is intended for tapping applications in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. It is a standard production tap used in machine shops, maintenance environments, and field repair work wherever 5-40 UNC threads are required. For blind-hole applications, take care not to bottom the tap against the hole floor, which can cause tap breakage.
