The OSG 1008600 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting 10-24 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features 3 flutes and a plug chamfer that balances thread-starting ease with full thread engagement. The H7 thread limit designates a slightly oversize tolerance class suited for tapping threads that will accept plated or coated fasteners. Overall length is 2.375 inches, with a thread length of 0.875 inches and a shank diameter of 0.194 inches. This tap is appropriate for machine tapping and hand tapping applications in production and maintenance environments.
The OSG 1008600 is suited for through-hole and blind-hole tapping in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The plug chamfer style, with approximately 3 to 5 lead threads, makes it a general-purpose choice for most tapping setups. It fits standard tap holders, tapping heads, and drill press or CNC setups where a right-hand 10-24 UNC thread is required. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool and die tradespeople will find this tap appropriate for both production runs and repair work.
Designed for tapping 10-24 UNC threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 102 straight flute tap line.
Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole before engaging the tap to avoid cross-threading or breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Power down or disengage the spindle before changing or inspecting the tap. Follow applicable shop safety practices and equipment manufacturer guidelines when operating drill presses, lathes, or CNC machining centers.
