The OSG 1005300808 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting internal 3/8-16 UNC right-hand threads in production and maintenance machining applications. Built from powdered metal with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life in abrasive materials compared to standard HSS taps. The 4-flute straight flute geometry produces clean threads in through-holes and blind holes where a bottoming chamfer is required to thread close to the bottom of the bore. The H5 thread limit holds tight tolerance for 2B class of fit. Overall length is 3.937 inches with a thread length of 0.751 inches.
This tap is suited for use in aluminum and cast iron workpieces in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. The bottoming chamfer style — typically 1 to 2 lead threads — makes it the correct choice when full thread depth must be achieved near the bottom of a blind hole. Coolant-through capability supports high-pressure internal coolant delivery for chip evacuation and thermal management during extended runs. It is appropriate for job shops, toolrooms, and production floor use where consistent 2B fit is required.
Designed for cutting 3/8-16 UNC 2B class of fit threads in aluminum and cast iron workpieces. Suitable for use in CNC tapping cycles and manual tapping machines that accept standard shank and square drive tooling.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by a machinist or toolroom technician familiar with tapping speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the workpiece material. Always secure the workpiece fully before tapping operations and ensure the tap is driven concentrically to avoid thread distortion or breakage. When using in a CNC machine, verify spindle speed and feed rate are set per the tool manufacturer guidelines for the material and tap diameter. Do not reverse a bottoming tap before it reaches the intended thread depth in a rigid tapping cycle without confirming machine synchronization.
